Staying at the Melrose show grounds- great spacious spot nested at the bottom of Mt Remarkable amongst gum trees, football oval and the show grounds.
We spent the morning doing paperwork and school. (Weather was a bit windy and cool -we find it hard to venture out when weather is like this)
In the afternoon we took a bike ride through the bike track generously donated by a local farmer to the town only 1.4km away. An interesting sleepy town, lots of bike tracks and a great name.
Only in Melrose there would be a huge gum tree with the road made to go around it, off corse Melrose had to give it a big hug as she does with the special trees.
Finding a small shop with Melrose parafanalia we bought a couple of things. One being a sticker "where there hell is MELROSE"
A 6km run for Tim and Melrose where Tim was lucky not tread on a large snake. The next day was our 2 day adventure to the Flinders Rangers. Returning Sunday night ready for our move to Whyalla and to collect Baigal for our trip to Coober Pedy and then the Nulabour to Perth.
Flinders Rangers poem
Departing Melrose for an overnight trip to the Flinders Rangers
We were hoping not to encounter to many dangers.
Firstly a paddock full of emus we came across
One looking like an overgrown ostrich -he must have been the boss.
Dodging the Kangaroos, nearly getting a gala through the windscreen,
We were all ready to scream
Next at Quorn we needed some fuel,
We parked up next to a huge cactus and filled up our blue mule.
Sad memories of pioneering farms
Spread from near and far.
Beautiful buildings made of stone,
In the vast landscapes they stand ruined alone.
At the Arkaroo Rock Lotte had a blow out with her thong,
Tim the problem solver fixed it with a pin and made it strong.
This outback SA is rugged but pretty,
We sure feel like we are a long way from the city.
Winding through the beautiful Brachina Gorge river bed
Edged by the rugged ranges, amazing colours brown, orange and red.
On exploring a cave we see an eagle take off and soar,
Here there is wildlife galore.
We had a meal at the Blinman pub,
Staying at tha unit we all had a good scrub.
So many emus we love to watch them dodge and dart,
Unfortunately they are not that smart.
Day 2 drive we thought the rangers were softer and green,
Otherwise it could have been a Pilbara scene.
We loved the gums grabbing onto the rocky river,
Fidge wanting to to take many photos, Tim would just shiver.
The road was rough
but unfortunately our tyre ran out of puff.
Lotte would have rather been at Myre,
Than to get a flat tyre.
Aroona Dam swimming was a " no no"
But that did not apply to our nude Timmy who had a go.
Then 300 km to roam
Before we got back to our blue home.
Our special dessert of quondong pie
A red native berry, tart in taste but good -oh my.
