Well I'm off!!
I had a few things to do in Mount Isa - say good-bye to friends - lst minute packing and cleaning - handing back keys etc so it was a late start.
Finally got everything's orated, furled up and hit the road about 14:00.
Lerned a few things already:
1) It would be better if I strap down my fuel drums with the fillers at the front - siphoning fuel from them into the postir's tank will be a lot easier that way.
2) my camping mat also needs to be moved - if I strap it down along the bike it sticks into my back and stops me moving around on the seat - if I stra it down across ways I can move around on the seat and as an added bonus my backpack rests on top of the mat and takes most of the weight off my shoulders - :)
3) no matter how much people warn you about the flies you'll still be shocked by how many there are!! Every time you stop you think "great!!! No flies!" but within about 1 minute the first one arrives and 2 minutes after that you're covered in them!! I had to buy a fly mesh at the Dajarra Road House - I suspect it will be the best $10 I've spent in a long time!!
Did about 160kms today - The Postie went well did 150km on a tank - it must like cruising at 55kph because the best I've got out of it before today was 115km from a tank.
Tomorrow should get me to Boulia and probably further - not sure if I'll make Bedourie - certainly wont make Birdsville tomorrow.
