In Bedurie today - but there's no mobile coverage here so who knows when this will appear on my blog.
Carrying on from yesterday at Boulia and The Min Min Lights.
Did I compare them with the Southern Aurora and The Northern Lights?? I shouldn't have - turns out The Min Min Lights are not much more than legend perpetuated by the locals - strange "balls of light" that follow cars and race off when you get near. Theories include ignited underground gases, and a bunch of other stuff including emus covered in phospholuminescent dust!! Anyway the Min Min Lights "experience" was not much of an experience!! 'nuff said!!
MINOR DISASTER!!! While I was riding along a piece of dirt road yesterday the lip to my tool box worked itself loose and all my tools fell out!! I didn't notice till about 20kms later so I back tracked till I found the tool box lid. Right at that point there were tyre tracks showing that a car had pulled up and footprints show someone walking around - walking around picking up my tools and then driving off with them no doubt!!! Riff Raff!!
I walked another 100m up the road and found my screw driver and bits plus my spare spark plug but my socket set, shifting spanner and pliers were gone!! So until I replace them I won't be able to adjust my chain or change my oil.
Another drama - the headlight bulb has blown! It's so hot I've been trying to ride out of the heat of the day - but with no headlight that's not much of an option - although I rode the last 80kms from Boulia to Bedourie last night holding my torch in front of the bike as my headlight. There are no replacement bulbs here in Bedourie so I might be doing more of the same tonight as I head for Birdsville - I hope they have replacements there.
I'm currently sitting in the shade in Bedourie Public Pool - its wonderful and it's FREE!! The locals don't come here - they say it's too cold??!? I'm here all alone - pick the key up at The Touriist Info Centre ($50 fully refundable deposit)
So this afternoon/night Ishould be heading to Birdsville - 198kms away - about 4 hours on the Postie. Hopefully there's mobile coverage there - more later.
