Okay that was bad. But we are tired! And since Kyoto is the headquarters of Nintendo, Troy felt we needed at least one video game reference in the blog.
We have fallen in love with Kyoto, and have been making the most of our 4 nights here by motoring through as many sights as possible (which goes against our new travel philosophy which is to "see less and see it better"), but it is so hard not to! Every temple, shrine, and garden is stunning, and we float around them wide eyed in wonderment.
We finally accomplished two of our quintessential Japanese experiences - karaoke and sushi. The karaoke experience turned out to be mostly wacky tourists like us instead of locals, but we learned firsthand that a Celine Dion medley is highly appreciated here in Japan. (And why wouldn't it be?!) The sushi was found in the Nishiki Market where we sat at the counter and watched the chef slice up the delicacies, and proudly show his completed dishes after each one when he noticed our interest. Such a fun time! And Clare had 4 cups of the best sencha tea ever. Japan is tea PARADISE!

Kristen Garvin The temples sound beautiful!
Clare They really are Kris, and the landscaping of the gardens in them is just as impressive, sometimes even more so. I think you would love them!
Caitlin I am home sick today and catching up on your blog. It took me three times to figure out what Mario-d was supposed to say. My brain is slowly deteriorating (and I can't blame video games).
Clare Hansen It was a stretch...I'm not surprised it didn't click right away!
