Quick update with photos to follow sometime soon when the right type of connectivity is available....
Went down to Agra on Saturday on an early train and had whistle stoptour of the "Baby Taj", the view of the Taj Mahal from the other bank of the river (back) and then on to see the real thing.
Locals = Rs20, Westerners......Rs750!!! But the benefit being that you basically get to queue jump at every stage and get a free bottle of water (bargain!). Still, in reality its about 8 quid / $10 to see one of the wonders of the world and it really is incredible and worth putting up with the stench and hassle of the New delhi Train Station.
Today we have completed a 31 hour stop-start trip to get us from Agra up to Shimla. 12 hour wait in Delhi made worse by a 3 hour delay to the train and was a bit of a pain as we should have been on board and settling in for a night in Sleeper Class at 21.25, Instead it was gone 12.30.
We made the most of the day in Delhi ahead of this by happening across an add in the paper saying the Indian Open (golf) was on in Delhi. Having put one of my father's (Stephen's) best "life hacks" in to action, we simply acted like we belonged and kept walking at the entry point until we we were safe inside.
Rubbing shoulders with India's elite, we enjoyed watching a few holes of golf, followed by a couple of beers in the Club house gardens, use of the finest rest rooms this far on our trip, but landed back to Earth with a bang sat on the floor of Old Delhi station with the beggars within 5 hours.
As I said, we'll get some photos up soone, esp. of Viceroy's Toy Train we took for the last leg to climb into the foothills of the Himalayas this morning.
Off for a pizza and and early night. Curry can wait for one night.
Thanks for the comments - I know how Fran feels with her radio show listeners!
Off to see the Dalai Lama in a few days. (If he's home)
Lots of Love,
Brett & Stace.
