Late Saturday night we rocked up into Denver after a huge drive from New Mexico. After a bit of a struggle to find a reasonably priced room, we booked a place online and thought we were all sorted.
What we didn't know, is that this weekend there was a huge festival in Denver, hence all the cheap rooms had gone (memories of Singapore came flooding back). When we arrived at out hotel we were told that there were no rooms and that the online registration should not have gone through. To cut a long story short, Stace ended up cleaning a hotel room with the staff member so that we could have somewhere to sleep for the night.
Anywhoo, next morning we were off to Boulder. WOW. We love, love, loved it! The Ironman race was on an we watched all the fit and healthy peeps cross the line whilst enjoying a free beer and sandwhich. Doesn't get better than that right? We strolled the streets and explored all the boutique shops and bars. It is such a lovely little place and so full of positive vibes, man!
After a couple of hours of nosing and exploring we headed to the Rockies to find a camping spot. It did not disappoint. We found a secluded little spot and Brett built a fire (v. manly) and we cooked and drank wine and had a very lovely evening. Until about 3am when it hit freezing and Stace was also freezing! Plus the wolves howling again made for an eerie night. But by morning the sun was shining and we were heading out for more adventures.
This time it was heading back west through the Rockies. Stunning scenery and some ridiculously heavy storms as we took most of the day to get to Paonia. Surrounded by ski towns, Brett wanted to see how renewable energy training is done american style, and one of the best centers in the USA was located in a cute little mountain town. Looking like a movie set for an old-school american high street, thi place had real character and friendly curious local as we stopped off for a coffee in a diner. Perhaps the wierdest thing about the place was the overwhelming stench of cannabis in the air. It's legal here, and they don't let you foget it. They must have been harvesting because for 10 square miles around this place it stank of it! Brett didn't get a job offer, but they did show him around and give some useful links. The search continued....Next up...Utah.
