Let talk about bathing:
to preface this topic, I would like to point out a fact that few people associate with the desert... It gets cold at night. Very cold. Which means that in the morning, I wear a jacket and long underwear, or sweatpants if they're clean. So being outside, naked, with a bucket of cold water is something I do NOT look forward to in the morning. Usually, I try and convice myself that its not so bad, and that shivering is the most efficient way to lose weight. But this morning, I decided to take a different approach, and heat up my water with an electric kettle (best 30 sole purchase I have made yet) to scolding hot. Perhaps it will distract me for how cold I am. Really, what it did is made the bathing experience more unpleasant. I go from dancing around from the cold to dancing around from the scolding hot water, then dancing around to the cold atmosphere again. But somewhere, between the scold hot to freezing, there is a brief moment of perfect contentness, while I water the steam rise from my body. So, in short, I still have found no great solution to my problem. I'm still cold, but happy. And so it goes.
Happy travels,
Teigan
PS. I know this photo has nothing to do with bathing, but its a great shot of my site-mate, Allison.

Kate Hey Teigan! Sooo this is kind of creepy, but I'm a Kiva Fellow currently living in Quito, and I'm getting transferred to Ica in October and have been trying to prepare for the move- so when I googled Ica, Peru your blog inevitably came up. Would you mind if I shoot you an email with a few questions, for expat solidarity's sake? That would be awesome. My email is Kate.Bennett (at) fellows.kiva.org, hope to talk to you soon. and again. sorry to creep on your blog.
