This morning we checked out of our favourite motel, the Avatar in Santa Clara, to begin our journey south to Los Angeles and Anaheim. Our first stop was Moneteray where we saw seals and otters enjoying the sunshine. We then reboarded the bus for a short trip to Carmel by the Sea where we walked down to the beach and got our feet wet (some a bit more than just their feet) in the Pacific Ocean. There wasn't anyone swimming because the water was so cold, but there were plenty of people on the beach and some beautiful dogs - especially the golden retriever playing with the red frisbee. We then walked back up the hill to have an ice-cream and board the bus.
It was very hot in Carmel so we were glad to get back on the air conditioned bus for the next leg of the journey.
We drove down Highway 1 which hugs the coastline and there were some very sharp bends and climbs which Juan, our bus driver, managed to manouvre with the help of Ms Colemand and Ms Loveday who were sitting right behind hime, holding on tight, and making sure he got around each bend. Ms Coleman let go long enough to take a few photos along the way.
What amazing scenary ... but we were very glad to see a straight road as we approached San Simeon.
An early start tomorrow and we should be at Anaheim tomorrow night.
