Hi guys,
We're still here. Sorry no wifi on mount cook.
Since we last blogged we left Geraldine and drove to Mount Cook village. On the way we stopped a few times and marvelled at how blue the water is. It took most of the day with our various stops for photos and the loos. By the time we arrived it was about 6pm and getting chilly.
I cooked dinner that night out in the cold while claire laid on the bed and supervised. The wind really got up and I was thankful for my 50p jumper. That night the wind was soo strong that it kept rocking the van and we thought it might blow away!
The next day the wind had calmed down a bit so we trekked up the hooker valley to see the Glacier and the floating icebergs. It took quite a while but their were a lot of things to see on the way - like two massive Indiana Jones style rope bridges. And we heard avalanches! By the time we arrived got to the ice it was freezing; unsurprisingly; and there was gale force winds. You actually had to stop and brace yourselves sometimes.
After that we tromped back for a very late lunch and then walked the short walk up to Kea Point where we could look out over the lake. It was very pretty but I was really cold by then so we returned to the van - where I shoved Claire out to cook dinner! We repositioned the van as the wind had got even worse - it was like being at sea.
It dawned bright this morning but still cold. So we packed up our stuff and headed for Queenstown - its about 300k through teeny tiny roads and big mountains. We only stopped once to watch some fool throw himself off a bridge - madness!
I'm now enjoying a McIce Cream while using the McWifi.
Bye for Now

Steve Taylor I wonder if the fool that threw himself off a bridge had a budgie on his shoulder? I believe it is a new craze......budgie jumping....
