Hi chaps, we are now in Phnom Penh!
We have been very busy over the last few days - our second day at the temples started a little later - at my request - we started the day with Angkor Thom, a huge walled city with lots of temples inside. I especially liked the elephant terrace which had almost life size relief carvings of elephants all along the front, beautifull. There were too many to name! the afternoon was spent doing the 'grand tour' of all the smaller temples slightly further away. We were out climbing up pyramids till the sun set it was very cool. On our way back to the city we gave an italian chap a sort of lift - whereby he hung onto our tuk tuk with one hand and cycled along side trying to avoid the pot holes at high speed! Nice chap.
That evening we got dropped off at the night market to have a mung round - lots of lovely things to buy. We finished off the day by having a jacket potato . . .you would not believe how much you start to crave a potato after months and months of something and rice . . .
Next day we took off from temple hopping and visited the floating village on the river nearby. It was lovely and sunny and we got to see crocodiles! I asked why they were being kept there - I shouldn't have - "for the handbags" . . . Hmmm.
After the floating village we had a bit of a night off (watched Tomb Raider) and caught up on emails and boring stuff like sleeping.
Yesterday was our last day at the temples, we visited the few we hadn't seen then re-visited Ta Prohm and Angkor Wat for the sun set. It was stunning, we will both be a bit sad to leave Siem Reap it has a really nice atmosphere - if you can tune out the constant "hey lady you wan tuk tuk?" And "only wann dolllllahh" . . .
So thismorning we got up early and got on the bus to Phnom Penh - 6 or so hours later we are at the Mad Monkey hostel, seems prety good so far one of the staff is from Brighton!
Unfortunately the journey back to bangkok to get down to the islands is turning out to be a mission - two 15 hour bus journeys back to back through an area that may or may not be accessible due to flooding, I'm sure it will be fine - I'm just thinking of the beach at the other end of the journey!

Mum R That must have been a very special time. Lots of people have said that Cambodia is worth a visit. Where are you going to next? xx
Steve Taylor Watch out for any transvestite guerrilla fighters, easily noticed by their very obvious camouflage and formerly known as the Khymer Rouge.
