Hello from sunny Cambodia!
The border crossing from Thailand was a little interesting . . . Luckily we had arranged to meet Mr Win, who walked us through the border and put us in a cab on the other side. The cab journey took 3 hours and was punctuated with stops to pick up other passengers, get fags and break really hard everytime we came accross any other traffic. I was glad to get to Siem Reap. Our hapless driver did try to palm us off on a Tuk tuk driver on the outskirts of town, claiming he didn't know where our road was . . . We were having none of it and stayed put till he gave up. Funnily enough 5 minuites later he regained his power of thought and found our hostel. Numpty.
Anyway, we dumped our stuff and had a little siesta befire heading into town for dinner. Chris made the mistake of letting me loose in the arts and crafts market . . . After a bit of retail therapy we headed back to the hotel for the night.
At some un-godly hour thismorning we met our tuk tuk driver for the day who took us round. The 3 temples we saw today. We bought a 3 day ticket as there is soooo much to see.
We started at Angkor Wat, it was magnificent. We spent over 3 hours walking round every knook and cranny we could find. I have taken a ridiculous number of photos - Chris did wig out a bit when we had to climb the 70degree steep stairs to the 3rd level of the temple.
After a short lunch we headed over to Banteay Kdei, a very dilapidated temple more in the forest, we spent most of our visit marveling at the very dodgy lesning walls and towers all propped up by wooden poles. Then we headed over to Ta Prohm made famous by the Tomb Raider film. I really wanted to see this temple in particular as the trees have grown over the walls in places and they are enormous. It did not disapoint.(appart from the big scary spiders dotted about . . .) We did take 5 minutes to marvel at the stupidity of some prat who thought he would go wondering over the ropes and onto the 1000 year old stonework - he was unceremoniously asked to get off. Twat.
We are back in the hotel now - will go in search of din dins in a bit, more temple action tommorow.

Claire Markham Your tuk tuk driver and my taxi driver must have talked - he tried to fob me off at the wrong hotel after almost getting us killed by a very scary looking dude for cutting him up at a junction. Fun times eh! Enjoy the rest of your trip xxx
MumR So you are back on track with the people management by the sound of it x I am so pleased you've been to the temple from Tomb Raider. Thats cool xx We haven't got quite the same atmosphere here. It's cold and we are living in thick fog!! lovely xx
Steve Taylor Wow.. Siem Reap, reminds me of the Grim Reaper that came for me today. I beat him off with a vacuum cleaner. Talk about Dyson with death!
