Kos, a Greek island in the south Sporades group of the Dodecanese. The island measures 40 kilometres by 8 kilometres, and is 4 kilometres from the coast of Bodrum, Turkey. We travelled from Bodrum on a small ferry taking just over one hour. It was easy going through customs and on the other side a lady offering her hotel to us so we could relax and store our luggage. Only a 5min walk. I was hesitant so she halved her price to 10 euros and Sean said yes cos he was busting to pee. 5 turned into 15mins uphill with two heavy suitcases but they were friendly.
We walked around, had lunch, looked in shops and relaxed in the sun. Sean's been into Backgammon recently and he taught me last week so we've been playing on our iPhones. But we've also bought a nice small board and the pieces have magnets which is perfect for travel.
We boarded the large 7.45pm ferry for Santorini, a 5.5 hour journey. The ferry is huge and there's hundreds of people on board. There was different sections on the boat and we had a numbered aeroplane (large) seat. Hmm. I asked about upgrading but had to wait until after departure. Both our Visa cards didn't work and we didn't have enough cash. Sean went back to try a MasterCard and still no go. We went back to our seats to think. No ATM machines. b*****. I went back again to the desk to ask if they excepted other currencies (we have 4 different types at the moment) no they don't. "Can I buy a one berth?" We had half the cash we needed for 2. With a bit of Greek chatter amongst colleagues and trying my Visa card again, "it's your lucky day," he said. "Two for one!" I was about to sing I was so happy. A porter all of a sudden appeared, we got Sean and our luggage and popped into our 2x3 which had a bunk and a bathroom. No wifi but it was very quiet and we were horizontal for the night :)
