Day 79 - Head of the Bight to Kyancutta Polkdinney Park Rest Area (553km)
The wind was strong all night but we felt very cosy inside the van. We didn't get out of bed till 7am as we had to wait till the Head of the Bight opened at 8am.
As soon as the gates were opened we drove the 10kms to the Head of the Bight Viewing Centre. We were a bit worried if we were too late in the season and we wouldn't see any whales but we were in luck. As soon as we were walking down the boardwalk we had a calf splashing its tail around, rolling and breaching. It then just kept slapping its tail.
We were watching the whales come and go for 2 hours and in total we saw about 20 whales and calf's. I wanted to stay longer but Rog wanted to get driving so sadly we left. Unfortunately my camera ran out of battery too whilst I was taking photos so I didn't get as many pics as I would of liked. It was so good though and I'm glad we stopped.
The kids enjoyed it more this time - Bronte actually saw the whales instead of just running up and down the boardwalk like she did 6 years ago (she was only 3!).
We drove past the Dingo Fence which we saw in Coober Pedy at the Breakaways so it was nice to see another part of it. The dingo fence is 5,600kms long and goes all the way to QLD.
On the drive today we saw an Emu as we drove out of the Head of the Bight road and 8 dead wombats just after we filled up with fuel at Nundroo. We also saw lots of wombat holes.
We arrived at Kyancutta Polkdinney Park Rest Area around 5:30pm.
The kids were very excited as there was a treehouse right next to our campsite so they had fun playing until the sunset.
