G'day g'day, I'm still alive and well. I've only had one more minor traffic accident since my last entry - this time it wasn't my fault.
I've taken on another private tutoring job, teaching a group of six-year-olds. Someone just called me out of the blue, asking if I wanted to teach a group of children. Why the hell not. So I accepted (actually I still don't know exactly how they got my number). I had my first lesson on Saturday night. I had a big one the night before, so I was still asleep in the afternoon when I should have been preparing for the lesson. I had less than an hour to prepare a 1.5 hour lesson.
I have a writing desk in my room, which is covered with all my junk, so I had to throw everything on the bed (my room is tiny, so the bed doubles as a second shelf). I decided I'd try to teach animals, even though I had no idea what level their English was at. So I had to hurriedly prepare a bunch of animal flashcards, and I discovered that I can't draw a cat properly...
I needn't have bothered. Turns out that their English was practically non-existent. They had a xe om (motorbike taxi) pick me up from my guesthouse and drive me to the house of the kids I was going to teach. The drive seemed to take about a bloody hour. Anyway, the leson was terrible. They showed me upstairs to what seemed to be a livingroom that they had turned into a mini classroom, set up with little desks and everything. The kids were sitting there, looking a little scared. It was a case of 'right, here they are. Now teach.' I had no idea what the hell I was doing...
They couldn't even say A-B-C, let alone animals. So I ended up spending two hours trying to teach them the letters of the alphabet. All the while their parents were sitting behind them, prodding them and poking them whenever they slouched and just being a general pain in the ass. I am really not looking forward to the next lesson...
So now I have three jobs and I work six nights a week. I think I'll give this one anther week, and if I still hate it, I'll drop it.
