Tonight I had my first real 'authentic' Vietnamese culinary experience. A friend took me out to this massive Vietnamese buffet place (it was free, coz she had tickets from her brother's friend, who works there). They made me try all sorts of weird and wonderful 'traditional' Vietnamese foods, like..... duck fetus. No joke.
My class was taken to a Vietnamese high school this arvo. We had to watch 90-minute demo lesson, which was pretty interesting. Vietnamese high schools are a lot different to Australian ones, that's for sure. They have about 50 students in each class. Anyway, after the demo lesson we had some student-teacher question time, where the students could ask us questions. They are so personal! Like "are you free?", "how old are you", and so on. Very amusing.
As we were leaving, the whole school came out to see us off. Hundreds of students, waving from the balconies and watching us from the playground. It was pretty surreal. We felt like we were rock stars or something. Weird.
We have to go back there tomorrow, to teach our first practice teaching lesson. It's not so daunting now that I know what it's like. Pretty fun, too. The students are so positive and enthusiastic. Especially when it comes to games and groupwork!
This weekend I'm heading up to Mui Ne to hang out with Brendo for the weekend. I haven't left Saigon since I arrived in Vietnam, so I'm looking forward to it. They have these massive sand dunes that you ride down, lots like a tonne of fun.
