Well I'll start off by assuring myself of the fact that this is only going to be for one night and that it didn't break the bank one little bit!
STUPIDLY, me and Pippa did a small wonder around Hua Hin looking for Jaz's recommendation 'Tid Tarad' which we couldn't find. We also bumped into two backpacker girls leaving a hostel. I don't remember the name of it but for 200 Baht a night, we were making our way there, or in the direction the girls came from at least. Fast forward a litlle: walking in the same direction only to end up getting tired and a bit lazy and ultimately, seeking out probably THE CHEAPEST place in all existance - 21 Guest House (AVOID IT PEOPLE!).
Pippa oversaw the whole booking process and checked out the room we were buying whilst I waited in a dirty, stinking, humid corner of the outside reception area meet alley way- dog poo litered everywhere up the pathway. We knew it wasn't going to be as nice as places we'd been to before. In fact, we knew it'd be the worst place we'd came across the whole five weeks but as we were near to the end and wanting to conserve our money for Bangkok and touristy stuff we thought we could bare with it (Only one night afterall all) "We can sleep anywhere!"
Now I'm literally sat in a dingy, drap, decaying room with a leaking/collapsed ceiling in the bathroom- the rot and mould is shcokingly striking. So much so that you can even see a peak of the street outside whilst lying on the bed! There are huge cob webs in almost every corner and no word of a lie, the man who checked us into this hole is slumped on a chair outside of our room/ make shift reception area and is coughing rather agressively -his guts seem promising to overspill. He sounds like a dying man wriddled with all sorts: the entire place seems wriddled with all sorts too! Not to mention the make shift wardrobe hanging above the bed (Who knew a few hooks and some cable wire could be so useful).
Imagine those American style motels in movies where people go to when they're on the run... the kind of places fit for the lowest of the game type ladies of the night- rooms are as low as 50 Baht here, I thought I'd bypassed the grim by upgrading a few levels to a room with a TV, double bed, wifi and a toilet! For a nifty 150 Baht we knew were guarenteed something pretty grotty but even us low-budget backpacking students who'd endured wee-smelling sleeper trains, 24 hour slow boats and cosying up in trolleies on train platforms hadn't anticipate this kind of grot... NEXT LEVEL! An £8 equivalent which now I'm here, is a steep price even in GBP- £2 sounds more fitting to what the 21 Guest House gives
