Hello everyone, ok this may be a long one as i have not done one in a while. Where to start??
Ok so we left Alice Springs for Tennant Creek, we arrived at 2am, what can i say about this place....have you ever seen wolf creek?? it was like a scene out of there, totally deserted with no one there apart from a few aboriginals shouting at each other drunk, the hostel had tonnes of spiders and the door which did lock was rather....dodgy, so a chair was put underneath it. Like it was have stopped someone if they tried to get in. (i can put this now as i have left and my mum wont have a dicky fit haha). We checked out of the hostel at 11am and had until 10pm to kill until our painful 26 hour bus journey to Airlie Beach, so it was a day of moaning as it was too humid to do anything and to be honest there was nothing to do there anyway, lol.
We set off on our 26 hour journey to Airlie beach and arrived at midnight the following night...this night was certainly an experience and a half!! I had booked and paid a deposit for us to stay in a hostel, we got there at midnight to find that the checkin desk was closed. Ok, dont panic, there was an out of hours service!! we dialled the number and a nice man came to help us, he told us that we had to pay again on top of the two nights accomodation we had already paid for, at this point soph and i really didnt care about the cost so we just said thats fine. Then this dude (who was turning out to be not so nice anymore) said he needed my credit card, i wasnt giving him my credit card, i havent even used it yet!!! and then on top of that he wanted my passport. I would have budged at the credit card as that can be cancelled but after having my things stollen in South Africa, there wasnt a cat in hells chance i was giving him my passport, its my only way to get back home (it wouldnt have been put anywhere safe and left on the side of a cabinet). So off we went to find somewere else to saty, however, all of the places in Airlie beach dont let you check in after 11!! At this point panic set in as it started to rain and it was 1am and we had nowhere to stay. Luckily a very nice lady (which we named her, her real name is Julie) who worked in a night shop let us stay in there all night and let us get some sleep in her car, isnt that lovely!!! Also throughout the night i had text messages of Daniel who was at home looking for 24 hour hostels of the internet for us, which was great, none of them answered their phones though!!
The morning after at 7am we promptly checked into a YHA and got a shower and relaxed before heading down to the nasty hostel which wouldnt let us stay there, to show what english girls are like when we get annoyed, grrrrrrr! However, our plan went terribly wrong when we were welcomed by the most horrible russian woman ever (im having to kerb my language as my momma is reading this, if i put what i really think of her i will be in toruble when i get home), she basically told us that is was our fault we couldnt check in at midnight as we didnt tell them, i dont know what planet she was on, i really dont, as i did tell them. After about 10minutes of her repeating everything she said she said the conversation was over and that the full amount for the 2 nights stay was going to be deducting from my account, and that we were wrong, ggrrrrrrrr. She had no customer service skills whatsoever!!
Anyway we aside from this we had a lovely few days at Airlie Beach, it rained....however it was still good, plus i did this the last time i came so i knew what it looked like when it was sunny :). That night we went to a bar and had BEER!! $8 for a jug, now you cannot complain with that can you!! so we spent the night getting very merry telling all the people who came near us to not stay at magnums as they have a nasty manager (kerbing language again) and that the hostel had bed bugs haha.
Then it was off to Brisbane, we had a mooch around the city on our first day there and then the day after was our day trip to Australia Zoo - the home of the crocodile hunter!! I have to say it was a great day, i held a possum and a koala, fed and elephant!! and saw all the crocodiles steve irwin rescued! Even though it rained it was well worth it.
From Brisbane we went to Byron Bay, i love Byron Bay as the last time i came i did a skydive here (dont worry mum, there has been no more jumping out of planes). The weather has been glorious too, so for the past 3 days we have been relaxing on the beach, i have been trying to top up my tan as soph has informed me when we get to New Zealand its there winter...and my tan will fade :( booooo. We went up to the lighthouse and watched a beautiful sunset and had a picnic and we experienced the backpacker bar cheeky monkeys....currys are $2!!! and everyone dances on the picnic benches.
Its our last bus journey to night, we are off to Sydney baby!! cannot wait
