Our first full week in Siem Reap is complete and I'm already wishing we had booked longer in this magical place.
The music wall is nearly up running and ready to be used by the children. After having painted the wall with two coats of paint, we fixed the instruments/ pots and pans to the wall. The school knew a handy man to drill the holes, which was a blessing! We now need to finish decorating the wall with music notes and writing and then it will be ready for children to create, compose and more importantly annoy all the office staff!
During the end of the week, a family from my school in London came to visit. The head put them in contact with myself as she knew I was coming out here over the summer. The dates matched up so they decided to pay a visit. They loved it and it was great to see the children interact and play football with the Khmer children.
On Friday evening we had a movie night. Every child who entered the colourful gates to come and watch the film got a ticket that then went into a raffle. When the tickets were drawn they won prizes such as new school bags and books. The final prize then got wheeled out by Tom... it's was a bike! This had amazingly been donated. Their faces lit up in shock. The number was called and it couldn't have gone to a more worthy person in Tammy's eyes. He jumped for joy and in shock rode his sparkly new bike off into the distance. It brought tears to all our eyes. During the film, popcorn was made by the kitchen staff. The movie itself was being projected onto a large sheet which was hung from an outdoor structure. You could see people watching the movie from behind the gates, these were people who didn't attend ABC's and Rice. It was truly a special evening for them all.
We have lots planned for next week and I can't wait!
So...
