With all the excitement, slight burn (yes even with sun cream), alcohol consumed with Tammy and probably dehydration, my second night in Siem Reap was spent with my head in the toilet. Possibly forgetting how humid it gets, forgetting that I had only just arrived and wanting to be in the moment and fit a lot in, lead to a dreadful night. The morning after was not much better, in fact it got much worse. After having had an amazing breakfast with an old teacher from ABC’s and Rice and her son, I went to the toilet... Cambodia belly had hit me and then I became totally overwhelmed and felt completely faint. Making my way out of the toilet down the hallway back to join them for breakfast, I was stumbling, placing my hands against the sides of the walls. I was soon whisked up by the lovely Khmer receptionist and part owner who quickly sat me down, placed cold towels over me, and put my legs up on another chair. Once Tom and Soky has realised I hadn’t joined them back at breakfast, to my embarrassment they rushed over to see me at probably my weakest. Luckily, and by some miracle, another guest at the hotel was a doctor so rushed over and settled my breathing whilst Tom went to get an electrolyte to drink.... the £137 spent on medicine was put to use already. Once the sweats and the breathing had calmed down, I went to bed. Yes going to bed at 11am- 1pm isn’t what I had envisaged, but unlike instagram pictures, travelling isn’t always perfect. Once awake, I drank another electrolyte, and went downstairs for some plain boiled rice.... I was a very cheep date that night!
So I think it’s fair to say my Sunday was a write off, but I am feeling so much better this morning and back to my normal self. Hooray!
