Day 6
We decided to stay another night at El Questro which means we had the day to explore around. It is ridiculously hot here and I'm constantly sweating. Also discovered that the WA heat is no match for crayons - as one has melted into our table.
Erika and I really wanted to do the guided horse ride around the station, but the horses have been sent back to the Victorian Highlands, so we missed them by a week and we were both a bit disappointed.
But instead we went out to Zebadee Springs which were absolutely stunning and the water was a warm 28 degrees. We all had a swim today in the springs and it was beautiful and very refreshing.
After the springs we did some 4WDriving around to the El Questro Gorge, but because of the heat and the kids we didn't do the 2.5 hour walk (each way) to actually see it.
On the way out I had my first rough 4WDriving experience and even got to drive through two river crossings - it was great. I was very surprised when Andy offered up the driving if only for a short distance.
Back to the station for lunch and a ice-cream to find our camp had been raided by crows and other birds - there was rubbish everywhere and they had even pulled my peg bag apart and scattered pegs all over.
After lunch we headed out again this time for Explosion Gorge. On the way we could see the very private and very expensive El Questro Homestead that's featured on Getaway. It is perched right ontop of a cliff.
The road was a very very rough drive - Nanny was less than impressed with it and Eri told me she was hanging on for grim death at some points. The view was totally worth it when we got there - beautiful. After the Gorge we travelled to Branco's Lookout, once again just beautiful and would be even more speculation at sunset.
Back out along the rough road we saw some baby freshwater crocodiles on the edge on the water.
Home to camp for another swim in the 'safe' area and afternoon tea at Nanny and Dar's camp.
The girls were exhausted today and after dinner were all in bed by 7pm. This WA sunrise business is causing havoc, suns up by 5am which means girls are too - 10 to 5 this morning people - it's just crazy
