Early start, up the river and a trek through the rainforest. We all had to wear gumboots and quickly found out why as we waded through water and sticky mud. If I stopped in the mud it would almost pull my boot off when I went to move again, is basically clay. Few close calls slipping and sliding.
We sat in small huts for a couple of hours watching the bird clay luck, an area were all different birds come in to feed on the clay, is a source of sodium for them.
Back to lodge, lunch and then siesta - hammock had my name all over it.
Out again at 3pm and trek to oxbow lake. Pedro, our guide, had to scoop all the water out of the canoe first (had rained quite heavily throughout night and day). We slowly paddles around the lake, bird watching and fed the sardines & piranhas - they only little. Hoped to see some black caiman but was not to be. Storm brewing and rain on it's way, plus almost dark so we headed back in to shore to walk back to lodge, a lovely 3km walk through rainforest in rain and darkness - I think everyone knows which particular hairy 8 legged creature loves the nighttime!
Half way back we saw a puma, Pedro was a excited as us as he has only ever seen one 3 times in his life, apparently very rare to actually see one. He also very kindly found a tarantula nest for us, could not help myself and had to have a look - saw 6 juvenile which are not exactly small, the mother was most likely in the nest still.
Dinner, chilled out in lounge for a bit and bed, yet another awesome sleep.
