Hola!
What a fun night it's been! And I have to get up in 4 hours' time! I'm crazy lol!!
Finally got the wifi working this afternoon! Yay! :D
Didn't have to get up so early this morning thankfully! So no rushing needed :D About time to I say! :p
Arranged to meet at 9am so had a delicious breakfast of pancakes at the hotel. With a 40% discount, lovely! :D
Visited 2 cenotes just outside Merida this morning. Cenotes are a natural pit or sinkhole resulting from the collapse of limestone bedrock that exposes groundwater underneath.
We visited the cenotes in a cool way. Got there by minibus which couldn't go any further so we had to go by horse and cart that ran along old rail tracks! Did really feel for the horses as it was so so hot and they struggled to pull us at times :( it was the only way to get to the cenotes though as it was way too far to walk! Took about half an hour to the first cenote by horse and cart!
Had to climb down steps as it was underground. Just jumped in and swam/relaxed in the water. It was unbelievably clear! Could see the bottom by just looking through the water without having to even put our head in the water. So many fishes too. Only one of us had a waterproof camera so photos where taken on that one of us jumping in and swimming. Hopefully will get a copy eventually :)
The second cenote could only be accessed by a ladder. It was so narrow and incredibly dark! 2 people opted out as they hated heights and narrow spaces. Was cold as there was hardly any sunlight shining through.
Beautiful though!
Got back to Merida late in the afternoon. Had our own free time to look around. It was nice to have time to myself! Got stopped a few times though and many people thought I spoke Spanish! It's nice to not to be automatically labelled as English at first lol! Met a nice Mexican who showed me good places to see.
Had to give up after an hour or two of walking around unfortunately. Got a swollen right foot :( all started cos of a blister caused by my flip flops then it just swelled up for no reason! So have had to change shoes to stop it from rubbing. Hopefully it'll go down! Hurt my hands from the quad bike a few days ago, now this! Whatever next?! No more please lol!!
Chilled out and took my time in getting ready for a meal out.
Went to this Argentinian restaurant. Had this lovely steak and red wine shared around.
Decided to go for a few drinks after minus the Russians. A few hours later they turned up saying that the guy had lost hIs passport!!! Poor thing!! And we thought they were going to join us for a few drinks!
Hopefully they'll be able to sort something out at the embassy.
After we then decided to go to another bar, ended up being only 3 of us, me, the English woman Lizzie and Juan.
This Mexican guy that Juan knew kept asking me to dance with him so did most of the time! He was an older man but a good dancer!
I best grab some sleep! Got a 9 hour journey ahead of me tomorrow to Palenque where we'll be staying at a jungle lodge.
Won't have any wifi for the next few days unfortunately!
Buenas noches xxxx
