What an awesome day! Knackered and I have to be up at 6am tomorrow to go to Tulum for the morning.
Went on this jungle hummer tour all day today. Had to get a bus to the meeting place, took me forever to find the bus station but got there in the end! Luckily I'm one to be early so wasn't late, phew!
There were 3 American girls with me, one of which was really lovely. Kimberly was her name and she's so well travelled and knew a bit of ASL. We got to drive a hummer for the day and took in turns driving. It was a day of many firsts! My first time driving abroad, on the right side of the road and a car as big as that too! Was nervous at first but managed successfully, evidently :p
Visited the El Rey ruins (the photo of me with the iguana). Then we went to this crocodile zoo which had so many different animals. Held a crocodile, had a snake around my neck (Jacob, I know you'd love this! :p), fed some deers and spider monkeys and there was a cute baby one. Got a kiss off a parrot, walked through many crocodiles only feet from me.
Had lunch at this beautiful private beach in Puerto Morelos. It really was stunning.
The fun hadn't started yet! We all rode quad bikes through the jungle. It was so much fun! Got bad burns on my hands from it though somehow so it's making typing and doing simple things like packing difficult lol! Typical of this to happen to me really! Being the only white person in the group my face really stood out! It was so filthy from all the dust riding the quad bikes! It was boiling hot, by that time I really was desperate to go for a swim in nice cold water! Not just yet though! Went on zip lines through the jungle, was great fun, went upside down on one of them - awesome feeling!
FINALLY it was time for a swim! Went to this cenote. There were 3 different ways of getting into the water. The boring way - steps. Jumping off a high cliff, or ziplining and then jumping in. I've never jumped in from such a height before. Did the jumping in and the ziplining. Fun! Then they dared us to jump in from an even higher height! Scary but as you're in the air before you hit the water it's a great feeling!
Couldn't bring our cameras with us from quad biking right through to the cenotes. So had to get someone to take photos for us for $20! Of course it's their way of making even more money! So I have a CD so will have to wait until I have access to a computer before seeing them :(
The guide, Merak, was such a lovely bloke, really friendly and interested in us. He offered to drop me off at my hotel to save me getting the bus. There was terrible traffic because of a car crash so ended up talking to him about travelling and his life here and so on. Got some good tips off him. He was interested in how I can lip read people and how I can tell that accents are different. Taught him some signs too :)
Will be meeting my first group tomorrow evening, hopefully they're nice people as will be stuck with them for 12 days travelling Mexico and Guatemala. So tonight's the last night of having a room to myself for a while!
