Walked up Volcano Pacaya this morning and wow! It's safe to say I totally underestimated how tough the volcano walk would be! I'd much rather run a half marathon any time lol!! I'm not very good when it comes to steep hills! While I was walking up I was thinking thank goodness I'm not doing the Inca Trail up to Machu Picchu next week otherwise I would just die! Lol! The train is definitely a safer option for me :p
It was totally worth it though! The views were just amazing. It had recently erupted so the lava was still hot. Toasted some marshmallows using the heat from the lava. They were so yummy!
There was a lava store at the top selling many things which had lava stones in them. I bought a bracelet which has lava stone in the middle in a shape of a gecko.
The walk down was way way easier! Flatter and downhill which was fun!
Got back in time for lunch. Had so much washing to do so I went to the laundrette to get it all washed for about £2.50. Cheappp! And it was all washed, dried and folded for me in 2 hours. Amazing stuff!
Was starving so I went to this chicken place which had amazing tasting chicken!
Walked around Antigua for a few hours. Went to the market and bought a bracelet to add to my collection that I can wear all the time as I don't want to wear the lava one in the shower etc in case it ruins it. The man was honoured I bought one from him as there were so many stalls selling the same kind of bracelets. So he gave me another one for free! Obviously they are so cheap that he can afford to!
We met up before going out. Shared a bottle of red between us. I know I've grown to like red wine more and more since this trip as have only had red wine, not white or rose!
Juan made this lovely slideshow of all the photos he took on this trip. It was great and so much effort had gone into it.
We went out to this really nice restaurant. It was so quiet though, no idea why as it was one of the best meals I've had so far.
We went out to this bar afterwards. Minus the Russians of course! Other G Adventures groups were there so there were so many people. Got chatting to a couple of English girls my age who have done exactly what I did. Quit their job to go travelling around South America. One girl has also been to Australia and New Zealand. They're going home soon though whereas I've only just started!
Tonight was the last night with the group before everyone goes their own way tomorrow. I will be staying in a different hotel not far away as it's a lot cheaper!
It's been amazing travelling with them. They are genuinely lovely people even though they may not be my kind of people but they always made sure I was aware of things whenever anything important was being said. Here's hoping my next group will be nice!
