Tamara's Travels
France, Lyon 20th - 21st July
20th July
Travelled from Paris down to Lyon in the wine region, past many fields of giant sunflowers and vineyards galore. Stopped at Fontainebleau, a 'small' hunting lodge where we wandered briefly around the extensive gardens before doing a quick shop for snacks.
Dinner at the hotel in Lyon before some of the group took the Metro over to the Old Town for a drink at a pub. The streets of Old Town Lyon are the quintessential image of France. Narrow streets, gorgeous old buildings, cobble stone streets, just picturesque.
21st July
A quick drive down to the Contiki Chateau de Chuix, where we were supposed to stay, but again too many groups travelling around Europe for the Contiki village to hold, so we had been farmed out to a hotel again. But the area was beautiful and we certainly enjoyed staying in Lyon exploring the town.
Today we had a mock wine tasting, one red wine to drink at 10am, a bit early for me! Then a good walk our of town through vineyards to a park labelled 'Top of the world' by the Contiki reps. Here we had a picnic lunch overlooking the area. A great view, loads of sun, not much shade, laughter and photo taking.
On coming back to the Chateau we lazed by the pool, couldn't swim coz someone broke glass in the pool, but we paddled our feet for a bit. We returned back to Lyon for dinner and then a small group of us headed down to the river for drinks and socialising. A very beautiful city by night.
