Tamara's Travels
As I was in the water today a song triggered in my head - from Top Gun - "Take my Breath Away"! Today was AMAZING!
Greetings from Mission Beach, a small spot we arrived at last night on the way up to Cairns. As we arrived they were doing a fantastic Fireshow at the hostel - Im going to learn a little bit tomorrow. Might be a pro in time for the wedding John and Manu, if your short on entertainment!! May also have burnt my hair off, but lets hope not!
So on to the more important part of this postcard... The Great Barrier Reef! I was lucky enough to learn to dive in the Maldives and was always worried nothing would quite match up.... I didnt have to worry about that today! I shared my dive with Ray's, a 6ft shark (yes, actually a 6ft shark 3 meters from my face!), 5 mini reef sharks, millions and squillions of amazing fish and corals of every shade! It was absolutely stunning! Most people dive from Cairns, but I had been told that the volume of dive boats and divers touching the reef means that apart from being crowded a lot of the reef there is dead. So I was pleased to have had my first experience of the reef from Mission instead. Am now tempted to do my Advanced Open Water too!
We saw lots of nemo (clown) fish, as well as hundreds of other types. There were just so many in different shapes and sizes it was incredible! Starfish, and giant clams about 3ft long were also so colourful - amazing turquises, and purples and all sorts!
As you may have gathered from my excited waffle, the dives I did today (as well as the snorkelling, which was also awesome) were yet another amazing experience to add to my highlights of Oz. I am still beaming from ear to ear (as well as swaying from side to side from the boat motion) and just close my eyes to remember the underwater heaven I was in today!
I feel so so lucky and privelaged.
Lots of love from a very lucky, enchanted Tamara in Australia!
