We woke at 8 for stale bread and coffee without milk for breakfast. Also to see a 'tired' looking Sas, Ollie and Michelle!
We started on our very off the road trip to visit stunning mountainous lakes in amongst Siloli Desert. My iPod didn't go down very well with the Australians...made me realise what different music they have! However grants iPod went down a treat and we all enjoyed a sing along to Queen and Greese!
Our first stop was crazy big orange rocks scattered either side of the road. It looked like it should be either in north America or something out of the Flintstones! They were challenging to climb in flip flops!
We stopped at a lake at a foot of a volcano and took some photos and moved onto a gorgeous lake littered with pink flamingos at the foot of more snow covered volcanos. Despite the toilets being in old open-air ruined houses we enjoyed a chicken lunch in the sun with a spectacular view.
We then made our way across the Siloli Desert to see the stone tree: where the wind had worn away a stone in the shape of a tree. After getting out of the car and nearly being blown away by the wind, I could understand why. I could hear the wing whistling strong the 'tree'.
Our last stretch of the day was completed singing to Queen and Greese Lighting, and left us at Laguna Colorada, also known as 'The Red Lake'.
It was also super windy here, but the beautiful rich colours of the red and blue lake, surrounded by rich green miss and shadowed by a huge snow topped volcano was made even better with the addition of many Lamas and Flamingos. I've never seen anywhere like it!
We could have walked from the lake to our hostel, but we drove as it was so windy. We were in a 4 bed room with Grant and Sam. Grant bought a cheap bottle of red from the local store only to be ridiculed by the rich retired psychologist, Paul, for being a cheap-skate. That made me angry as Grant is only a student, but I managed to hold my tongue!
It wasn't long before our dinner of soup and vegetarian spaghetti-bowl was ready. Ollie and I served everyone up. Our guide brought us some Bolivian red wine and we chatted for about an hour before heading to bed.
Our slumber was delayed by Alison (Paul's wife) having a very loud debate with our drunken guide about how his son's future isn't planned due to Jesus Christ returning...
