Today I managed to buy a bicycle. It is not as good and not as big as I had hoped for but "when in Rome do like Romans do". It appears that most Chinese drive all too small bicycles, so I do the same. The bike was cheaper than I had budgeted so I might even leave it in Southeast-Asia when I (propably) fly to India some time next year. I got translation help from a university student selling Motorola phones in a shop. He was very delighted to be able to speak english with a foreigner (which he had done never before).
I decided to stay one more day here in Shenzhen, mainly because I still lack some maps and thus have not been able to plan my trip from here to Vietnam properly. I hope to be on the road Sunday morning before 9. Tomorrow I will also check the possibility of taking a boat from here to Hainan (which is a popular turist resort) and cycling to Vietmam from there. Hainan is quite close to Vietnamese border but I need to ride fairly far inland to get to the border crossing point.
Today I also had a "suprise lunch" in an all-Chinese restaurant. I guess the dish was "pork-belly" which is a quite popular dish here but I am not shure. I did not look very delicious, and it was relatively chewy, but the taste was not bad at all. Yesterday evening I selected my dishes from pictures and got black mushrooms with thin slices of pork and wok'd cabbage and clear noodles on top of baked agg. They were both delicious and total cost was reasonable (about 3 Euro).
