That morning we headed to Peter Pans to book a boat trip, which we did... it would set off that afternoon! I also booked my Fraser Island tour and Kiwi Experience for New Zealand. Got a shedload of money knocked off which was good! So after packing a bag for the boat, we stored our main backpacks and headed down to the marina!! The weather, for the first time since Asia, was glorious!!
Got on the boat at about 2pm and set sail for a couple of hours. Late afternoon we snorkelled over the Great Barrier reef and saw some fantastic fish and coral!! Then we dropped the anchor, had dinner, played some drinking games and hit the hay! That evening was punctuated by texts to various people on the boat, with everyone worrying that we were goning to be hit by the Tsunami that had ruined Japan. Kane (our skipper) laughed off the chances of anything, telling us the last time a tsunami was due to hit Oz, the sea level rose by 2cm!! Also, the Great Barrier Reef acts as a barrier along most of this part of the coast. Later, wasn't too impressed that me and Tom had to share what can best be described as a single bed, so after a pretty sleepless few hours, I slept on the couch by the table!!!
Next morning we were up early for a snorkel in a different location. So after sailing a while, we snorkelled again. Then we headed off to Tongue Bay, where we jumped off, did a quick bush walk to the lookout point overlooking Whitehaven Bay. Even though it was a bit overcast it was still pretty incredible! Next we headed down to the beach, where I pretty much just slept and Tom went down to the sea with a few others! My sleep was (rudely!) interrupted when it started to rain. After it had stopped, pretty much the whole boat laid their towels down and went to sleep!!! After walking back through the bush we got back to the boat just before a massive storm broke out.... so we cowered inside while that went off! It calmed down later after dinner, and we then started playing drinking games which may or may not have pissed people off oweing to their volume!! Drinks were drunk, songs were sung, few slept until we were finished!! I slept on the bench again!!!
Next morning was just a case of sailing into Airlie Beach, so Kane gave us a bit of info about the Reef, wildlife and other things. This was pretty enlightening, particularly the notion that had the film Finding Nemo been based on true life, when Nemo's mum was killed, Nemo would have become a female, and his dad's sexual partner!!! Eurgh!!!
Anyway we got in, checked back into Nomads hostel (cheaper this time, courtesy of our Whitsundays bookin!) before heading to Beaches for the boat after-party with all our fellow sailors!!! A good night!!
