A very long day of travelling on the local transport was an experience!! The bus had no air con apart from fans that had been attached to the roof!! But the windows did open so when we were on the move it was fine - felt a little windswept after but it was fun!! Once we arrived at our stop we caught a taxis to the hotel and this was an experience too - taxis in Thailand are a pick up truck with seats in the back!! Once settled into our hotel we heade out to watch a Puppet show. Its the funniest Puppet show ive ever seen. They are made out of Buffalo hide and then painted and put onto a stick and string attached to make the limbs move. We sat infront of the screen and then they used lights to make shadows. The puppet master then told a story - in Thai!! There were students there who then translate after each scene but it was quiet hard to follow even though they could speak fairly good English. After we got to go behind the scenes and meet the puppet master and learn how puppets are made and the show performed! After this we headed out for dinner - luckily our tour guide came with us as not much English is spoken in this area so was fun trying to order food. Ive have been rying to learn some thai which has been funny but can now say hello and thankyou which is a good start!!
The next day we had a free morning before heading to Koh Samui so some of us took the tour to Wat Mahathrat. This is a very large temple which we were shown around and told a little about Budism. We also got to hit the bell 3 times which is suppose to bring good luck and also shake a pot which had lots of sticks in it with numbers on - you have to shake it till one falls out then match the number up to a reading. Mine translated to say that im in very good health and so are my family and that i make them very happy!! Oh and that i should be more alert when driving my car!! Once back at the hotel we caught the bus to the pier and from here we caught the ferry across to Koh Samui.
