After a long day of driving and hanging around service stations i arrived in Port Elizabeth (PE) at about 22.30. As i walked into the hostel which i have to say was like the Ritz of backpackers and still only cost R80 bargain!! there was a group of people playing drinking games one of them being a girl i meet previously which is always nice to see a face you know!! Being invited to join in and hounded as i declined i headed for bed! Bus journeys really take it out of you!! I had a feeling it was going to be a good stay. The next morning after sleeping in and not been woken up by the sunlight - thanks to curtains that were in proper working order!! Me and Carly headed to the beach sunshine at last (have had quiet a bit of rain :( !!) The beach was lovely though with big buildingS and the noise of the city in the background it didn't feel like i was in SA, what with the nice cafe's/resturant, shops, bars, clubs and being able to walk around by myself and feel safe!! not the SA i had known for the past few weeks!! It was nice to have a 'break' from all the poverty ect sounds awful putting it like that but ive found it quiet an emotional journey one which has really pulled at those heartstrings!!! That evening we chilled at the hostel and when the guys who worked in the hostel finished we all got rather drunk and had a good laugh. Alot of people only stop in PE over night before heading down the garden route, i strongly suggest anyone heading this way should stop for a few days cos although the centre of town is the same as any other the beachfront is full of life and again very friendly people. Next stop Jeffreys bay (surfers paradise apparently). Will keep you posted!
