WOW!! Where shall i start. There is so much to see and do im going to have to come back! WARNING this is going to be a long blog !!! Xmas eve i meet up with Kirsty and Phil and we went for a lovely drive along the coast, the views were amazing and we stopped at Simons Town which was lovely to wonder around then we went to Boulders beach and hang out with the Penguins!!! I think they got lost and decided to ditch the cold weather and stay where they can catch a tan!! In the evening we went for a great curry at one of the resturants in the centre of Cape town and had a few drinks!!! Xmas day was strange - its not made into a big thing over here so it was easy to forget. I spent the day chilling at Kirsty and Phil's villa topping up the tan and swimming in the pool!! Xmas lunch was at a place i can only describe as a posh mcdonalds!! Most places were closed and didn't get anything from the supermarket the day before!! In the evening i headed back to hostel. After 2 drinks at the bar alone i finally made some friends and proceeded to get very drunk on cider and yagabombs!! No time to rest though boxing it was back to Kirsty and Phil's for a big BBQ as her family and friends arrived. I was chef!! That evening we headed up to table mountain its amazing and we timed it just right got to see the view still in sunlight then watch it set and then saw cape town at night!!! WOW!
So that was xmas!!
27 Dec - Today i spent the morning chilling out and pottering around then in the afternoon a group of us from the hostel caught the big red sight seeing bus, how exciting!! The best way to see Cape town if you have no car. First we drove through the streets of the city then up to table mountain drop off point which was a bit hair raising on a big bus!! then we headed out to Camps bay which is where we hoped off. A very popular beach with the 12 aposels and mountain in the back round - beautiful!! The down side the sea was freezing!! My ankles went numb just paddling! After a bit to eat in one of the many cafe's we hopped back on the bus back towards the city. The next stop for us was the V & A Waterfront. Jam packed with people but very lovely to walk around, theres plenty to do shopping, eating, drinking, boat trips ect. After a wonder around we headed back to the hostel. That evening we tried to find the xmas market that was supposedly on for a few days - couldn't find it so ended up in a pub down on the waterfront - a much better idea if you ask me!! Also meet up with Jo and Craig for a few drinks and they invited me to join them the next day to drive out to the cape penninsula and walk to the Cape of good hope.
So 28th Dec - off we headed its a lovely drive along the coast and then through table mountain national park - we saw some very cute baby baboons along the way. As we walked to the cape of good hope the views were amazing and you can look out over both the Atlantic ocean (which i think i already mentioned is freezing!) and the Indian ocean. The Cape of good hope (and i need to check this) is something like the most south easterly point. That afternnon me and Jo attempted to catch a few rays at Houts Bay but it was far to windy and we just got sand blasted!! That evening we ate at Camps bay though it was very busy and most resturants were fully booked we managed to get into a lovely Italian.
29 Dec - Kirsty and Phil's wedding!! An early start! i spent the night at Jo and Craigs appartment and me and jo got up and headed for the hair dressers - a lovely lady who did a very good job! We were all looking gorgeous and ready to go by 10.30. The bus picked us up and we headed to Stillness Manor - what a beautiful place which overlooks cape town!! It was a gorgeous day clear blue sky and the hottest since ive been here. Well i could go on for ever as it was such a great day but to keep it short Kirsty looked stunning, i cryed the most out of the whole wedding party!! and there was lots of eating and drinking!!
30 Dec - Finally a chill out day! Still with Jo and Craig We headed for Camps bay, Kirsty and Phil came to meet us and we topped up are tans ate some lunch and attempted to swim in the sea!! Late afternnoon Jo, Craig and I head for Kirstenbosch - Biotanical Gardens. Its beautiful to wonder around and we also sat and listened to the live music which they have every sunday night through out the summer. There were loads of people with picnics etc - a great atmosphere.
31 Dec - New Years Eve!! Started the day by saying goodbye to Jo & Craig then headed for the shopping centre with Ruth one of the girls i met at the hostel. After lunch a few of us headed over to another hostel were we had been invited for a BBQ. after some lovely food and a few drinks - ok and a few more we headed to the V & A Waterfront. This is where i saw the new year in - it was packed with people and at midnight there were fireworks!! After we headed up to long street (where all the bars are) got stuck half way as there was a carnival parading up one of the streets so we stood and watch it go by then nearly got trampelled to death when they opened up the barrier!! Ive never seen so many people!! Finally got back to the hostel at 5.30am!! No guessing what i did New years day!!
1 Jan - New years day - Sleeping, lying by the pool, sleeping, swimming, sleeping, drinking!!!
2 Jan - Last day in Cape town - Caught a taxis to the waterfront and had a wonder around - there was live music which i sat and listened to for a bit as well. Later in the afternoon i met ruth and the others from the hostel at a pub and celebrated my last night!!
