Spain continues to blow us away!!!
After a very fast train trip from Cordoba to Seville we set about exploring this lovely city. Our first stop was the Holy Church Seville Cathedral - the largest Gothic Cathedral in the world and the third largest church in the world. It is simply breathtaking. Massive pillars (about 2.5 metres in diameter) are throughout the building. The ornate use of gold, silver and marble is awesome. There are many nooks and crannies around the edge and each houses different scenes depicted by paintings, statues or gold and silverware. The tomb of good old Christopher Columbus is there too but it seems it only houses part of him!!! The organ, the alters, the ceilings were all amazing. One alter is made entirely of gold and was created by one very clever individual. The marble patterned floors are beautiful too. We climbed up the Giralda Tower, all 37 ramps to the top (ramps because the bell ringer had to ride his horse up to ring the bells!!). Tge tower had been a minaret during the Muslim occupation. The Orange tree Garden Courtyard beside the church was established in the twelfth century. The first construction of the building commenced in 1184. It was listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987 and a Site of Exceptional Universal Value in 2010. She's one helluva site. My description goes nowhere near doing it justice.
