A huge day today. Caught an 8.30am bus from Cordoba to Granada. We hadn't pre booked our visit to Alhambra - a bad move. We were able to buy a walking tour/Alhambra package at the bus station - a good move as it turned out. The bus station was miles out of town but we managed to find the local bus that took us close to where the walking tour started. Our tour guide, a Brazilian fellow called Fabio, was great. This is a pic of the outside of the Palace of Charles V. Alhambra was sensational. It's officially called the 'Monumental Complex of the Alhambra and the Generalife' and is about 142,000 square metres overall. We spent hours wandering around the Alcazaba - fort section of the monument, the Generalife - a palace/recreation area constructed for the Kings of Grenada so they could escape from official routine from time to time. The gardens particularly were stunning...

The ceilings particularly at Alhambra were exquisite. There were different patterns in each room. The variety of tile patterns were fascinating too. I just loved them all.

David at a drinking fountain on our walking tour. The elaborate ancient water system are still visible today. Some houses had water to them centuries ago - all made possible by a series of aqueducts and brick holding tanks.
