Raining. Lazy morning. Rain cleared so we could walk to the bus station
3pm bus to Faro in Portugal. Rained all the way.
Arrived just before 5 and realised our hotel was 20 minutes back the way we came so caught local bus
Run down buildings. Dust on cars and everything else - see pic. I said to David it looks like some of the Sahara desert had blown over. Guess what?!!! That's exactly what had happen the night before!!! Dust had blown over from Africa!!! The weather in the last 20 days has gone crazy. Snow - the first in 60 years. Rain - much more than other years. Dust storm - unheard of (common in summer though).
Casa do Poco - the house of well was amazing. It's a newly renovated 200+ years old house that had been vacant for 26 years. There's a 10 metre deep well out the back that had been filled in with rubbish. Now sparkling, whitewashed, illuminated, with a metal grill on the top. The water in the bottom is crystal clear with pebbles. Very cute. Mine host was an effervescent, passionate, 40ish fellow. He showed us before pics and the transformation is impressive. Very modern fittings but still maintaining an old look and feel. He has a parlour/office/gallery shop at the entrance to the building. There's wine, deli type food ie. tinned sardines, fish paste, preserved rose petals etc, etc. also some small pottery pieces and antique leather goods. He chooses his own wines ie. won't sell anything he's not entirely happy with.
Went down town to have fish pie (famous Portuguese recipe) and salad for dinner. Yum!!!
