OLHAO to LISBON Friday 24 February
After a great breakfast prepared by Rui we wandered down to the foreshore markers. These are in a couple of purpose built building - one for fruit, vegetable, meat etc and the other for fish. There were hundreds of different varieties of fish.
We came across lots of school kids dressed up for a festival. They were singing and dancing in the street and having a wonderful time. So good to see happy kids!!!
We met Rui's wife, Andrea before we left. A very petite psychologist. The station where we caught the local train to Faro was over the road from our hotel. While we were waiting Rui rushed in with a bag contains a special tile I had admired - as a gift!!! Sure won't forget him in a hurry and would recommend his hotel in a flash.
Our train to Lisbon left Faro at 2 pm and passed through farmland and bush. The buildings were all white with orange roofs.
We lost count of the storks nests in electricity towers along the way. (We'd seen a couple on the top of chimneys in OLHAO earlier in the day too.). Storks are protected here so their nests are quite safe.
We arrived at the impressive Oriente train station in Lisbon (see pic) at about 5.30 and took a 20 minute cab ride to our hotel. We were directed to an authentic Portuguese restaurant where we both had a yummy fish dinner.
