A typical alley way just off the 'main drag'.
A half hour train trip north took us to Toarmina Giardini Naxos station which is down close to the sea. The station had marble everywhere and was as tidy as any we've seen.
The town was way up the hill so we caught a bus to take us up the zigzag road to the centre. What a beautiful little place?!!! Super clean. Bright and inviting. Very touristy but in a friendly way.
We headed for the amazing amphitheatre where you could easily imagine major events taking place thousands of years ago. While it is in ruins to a certain extent much effort is being made to restore it.
Wandering aimlessly we poked our head in to lots of shops and alleyways.
Had a lazy lunch at one cafe then went on to another for coffee and dessert.
Would certainly recommend Taormina as a place to visit.
So lucky to be there in the sunshine too. We've been really fortunate for 99% of our trip. Can only recall one day that was uncomfortably wet. Other than that it's been brilliant. Travelling off season is so much easier than I imagine high season would be. There's only been a couple of instances where things have been unavailable.
