We hit the ground running this morning and began ticking boxes. Our Rome Pass gave us free entry and 'skip the line' at the Coloseum where we spent hours just ogling at the enormity of the whole place. We've had many 'Wow' moments on this trip but this one was a multi 'WOW'!!!!! It just goes to show you can achieve many things by having money and using slave labour. I must admit I found it hard to get my head around this amazing complex. The pic is of my first, spine tingling glimpse of it all.
The adjoining Forum grounds showed the ruins of a number of massive palaces and associated public spaces and these too were mind boggling. It's hard to imagine such wealth thousands of years ago and it was fascinating to just wander around.
The massive Piazza Venezia is a massive, marble edifice built in the mid 15th century and is one of the oldest civil Renaissance buildings in Rome. Simply magnificent.
We walked our little legs off for 8+ hours exploring today.
