We started off our day wandering around in the sunshine at a couple of markets in the Old Town. I love markets and there were a few little different things there. At one stall they offered toasted crust strips that had been cooked over coals on a rotating roller. They looked yummy. The fruit stalls presented their fruit beautifully with small baskets of multiple berries on offer. Mouth drooling they were. We came upon a 'rank' of old cars that offered tours of the city.
The shops were filled with exquisite crystal and lots of babooshka dolls. Christmas decorations and gingerbread houses were in many outlets. Have never seen so many shoe shops!!!
As usual we saw lots of amazing buildings, many of which, due to not understanding signs, we had no idea what they were. Their decorative facades were different from any we'd seen earlier. The astronomical clock, of course was an exception. Also the lovely old palace across the river where the views back across the river to the city were stunning.
The Charles bridge that crosses the river from the Old Town was very impressive with towers at each end and statues along the edges. The other side of the bridge seemed like another world. The streets were wider and it was easier to get around. The Palace was solid with imposing entry gates along with its sentries at the front gate.
The statues around the city were mostly stone but there were a few bronze ones. The statue at the State Theatre had been impressively dressed in a fabric costume.
My fixation with cobblestones continues. Prague's cobblestones were mostly small (50ml DN says) square and there were many different patterns.
There were plenty of amazing doors too.
David bought some glassware and went to claim the tax. After sorting out the claim it appeared that there was an issue (we were leaving the EU in longer than 21 days I think). The dear lady at the desk was horrified and about five 'Jesus Christ Super Stars' later we accepted the fact that tax plus ? would need to be paid. Think it amounts too to about $5!!!
We went to see a Mozart Dvorak chamber orchestra in the evening. Just beautiful.
