This morning we decided to take a taxi to see a couple of the main historical sites before we caught our train down to Prague. First stop, the impressive Brandenburg Gate, where we hopped out and raced over to take the obligatory pic. Drove past Checkpoint Charlie, numerous huge government type buildings and a massive cathedral (surprise, surprise!!!) its name?!!! The Evangelical Supreme Parish and Collegiate Church - it was amazing and would love to have had time to explore. The city was very clean and there were not many people out and about early on a Sunday morning.
Our slow train to Prague stopped at many little old, old villages along the way. After Dresden, two hours south of Berlin, we followed the Moldova (Vltava) river and there were buildings almost all the way to Prague. It didn't seem a big river but there were a number of ports along the way and on checking google it seems that it's connected to the Elbe river and that you can take a cruise on it.
Our arrival to Prague was most interesting. Up until now we've not had and issue with the language barrier but at the Prague railway station it seemed no one understood English!! We knew our hotel wasn't far from the station but couldn't ascertain quite where. Usually there's wifi at the station but no, not in Prague!!! In the end we decided we'd try a taxi. The first driver wanted €25!! Then another fellow offered us €20 but we decided to try again to find help. In the end the fellow at the bus info kiosk, who spoke perfect English, helped us out and it took us about 7 minutes to walk!! Bloody taxis!! We felt quite intimidated.
It was a bit cold and miserable so we decided not to venture out and did our washing.
All info from the hotel indicated that Prague can be a bit dangerous ie. don't approach groups of strangers and be careful if they approach you, watch your valuables etc etc. So we didn't feel comfortable roaming the streets to look for dinner so ate at the hotel. What a great choice that was!!! We had the best meal we've had on our trip so far - rabbit for me and tiny pork chops for David's. The food was sensational. We were the only folk in the dining room - others seem to eat much later than us.
