Back home with the tuk tuks! So glad i changed my flight on wednesday - the people at Quantas love me im sure! Rushing off wasnt going to be fun and I would have missed out on really spending time with the family in Bangkok! Had an awesome week!. Slept alot it has to be said but at the same time spent alot of time with the Mala and just chilling out was awesome. Doing normal things like reading the paper and drinking tea in a lounge. Special. Sally and Zormin have been amazing still telling me loads of things about thailand and burma. Met alot of Zormins friends who always come round for dinner and they are always really interesting and like to chat. Wednesday Sallys friend Mags arrived from Cambodia bringing the Nanny and her little boy Ratchanan who she adopted 8 months ago. Hes just 6 and a kool little kid. Have had great fun playing with him all week. Yesterday we took him to Dream World- a bit like chessington - im not sure who had more fun - the nanny, me or Ratchanan. Completely new to him- and to the nanny- they dont have places like that in Cambodia!. 5 times on the Grand canyon still wasnt enough. His english is amazing considering hes only been with Mags 8 months and today we took him swimming and hes clearly a fish! First time he went swimming was only a few months ago. Lovely little kid anyway - hes gone now but I could have fit him in the backpack im sure!
This morning was an interesting experience too! Zormin teaches english on a sunday morning to Burmese migrant workers 'refugees' most 22-30years old. They really want to learn english so they can get better jobs! Its all part of the development programme! The night before Zormin asked me to come in 'as a native speaker' and just chat with the class for a bit- yeah why not! 'Basic english' was all I knew about the class. So this morning I was standing in front of a class of students - talking about myself and asking them questions! I had a white board and pen and Zormin just sat at the back- Helpful. I didnt know what they knew or anything but had quite a lot of fun chatting away and individually talking to some of them asking about their home life and where their family lives etc. Clearly blagging...but still i think they enjoyed it- and I did too. I'm not sure they learnt anything but they were very friendly and we had a laugh. For them to actually pay attention was very flattering. I wasnt allowed to finish unitil my hour was up either- Zormin was quite clear on that- harsh- but a good experience. Maybe if I do decide to teach I will plan my lessons in advance. Or maybe not!
Have been eating very well too thanks to Sally, i have tried all the food in thailand now - had Dim Sum today- moved on to chinese- and last night we went round the corner to have street food, whoel cooked fish, thai sausage, som tam (papaya salad) and veg. How kool is it to have all this on your doorstep! Have also descovered iced coffee and tea. Mmm, also available as you step out of the house!
Aus tmorrow- ...really?
