Suzanne and Simon's Travels
Hi Guys,
we have finally got some time to update you on what we have been up to for the last couple of weeks.
Our last proper update was when we arrived in Adelaide so quite a bit to catch up on.
When we were in Adelaide we had a day out in the Barossa Valley wine region visiting wineries. WE went with three people that we met on the Great Ocean Road tour. Lisa is from Adelaide but has lived in London for 8 years and was visiting her family with her boyfriend so it was handy as she had a car which saved us a lot of money. Emily, a girl from Nottingham also came with us.
When visiting the wineries basically you just turn up and go to the cellar door for a taster of their wine selection. Some are free and others cost about $5 which is pretty cheap. We started at 10am, maybe a bit early to be drinking but we were on a cultural tour so we couldnt say no. At the first winery called Torbreck we tasted some very good white and red wines and even a bottle that costs $265. After petending we knew what we were doing and asking some intelligent sounding questions we bought a bottle each and carried on to the next winery. Unfortunately we couldn't afford the expensive one but it was very tasty.
After this first winery we discovered that the area is famous for its selection of red wines which was a bit unfortunate for Simon as he doesn't like red. Most places had a couple of whites for him to taste and he did discover that he deffinately doesn't like red wine but does suprisingly like port so thats what he stuck to.
We went to another four wineries after that, at each one tasing about six different types. We went to Two Hands, Peter Lehman and a couple of others. The wineries all varied greatly from being really modern to really quaint. Some had wine experts in telling you about the wines and one even had a girl handing out the wine that didn't like red herself. Not a great way to advertise you product!
Our last stop for the day was Jacobs Creek, by the time we got there we had had enough wine and all knew what it tasted like anyway so we went in, took a photo standing by the sign and then left again. I'm sure people thought we were a bit strange but never mind.
We headed back to out hostel for one last night in Adelaide and then headed north to Darwin on Thursday 8th.
