On arrival at the campsite we were given a demonstration of how to erect the tents which would be our home for the next six weeks. After the demo we put our own up and sorted out the sleeping bags and backpacks in our new space before enjoying a little free time, which we used to chat some more with the others.
We had a pre-dinner meeting at 6pm when the different chores were explained to us and also which groups we were split into. For our part we had to introduce ourselves to each other, giving a reason why we travelled to Africa and also what our favourite animal was, a task known as Creeping Death and one we both love (not!)! We were also given a kit list for the next couple of days for our adventure in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater.
As I was on dinner duty I then hung around in the kitchen area while Vernon cooked the dinner and those of us on dinner duty helped by doing the preparation and washing up.
Dinner was a really good communal time with the whole group eating for the first time together, a delicious meal of chicken curry. Once finished, as part of the kitchen team, more chores followed namely washing up and putting away of the kitchen items. We then retired to bed to try and catch up on sleep.
Sleep was certainly harder than the previous night. It was quite warm in our Indian sleeping bags and the fact we were hot combined with the plastic mattress was not a great recipe!
Dressed and washed we had a veritable feast set out for breakfast for us: cereals, toast, pancakes, fruit and tea and coffee. Opting for some delicious muesli and coffee, breakfast was enjoyed in that bizarre semi-consciousness that only occurs when you get up early.
At 8am the safari vehicles arrived and splitting ourselves into four groups of between 5 and 7 people we set off towards the Serengeti National Park.
