After a big day yesterday and another four looming large from tomorrow we decided to take it easy today on our last day in Key West. We had a late breakfast and wandered down to the Eco Discovery Centre by the wharf. It had some interesting displays re the reef and mangrove eco systems. Today it was time for my birthday treat, a very expensive trip out to the Dry Tortugas National Park. It's a 2.5 hour trip each way starting out early, we had to be at the pier by 7am. As soon as we were under way they served breakfast which set us up for the day ahead. It's been a gorgeous day, sunny with few clouds and calm seas. We woke to a drizzly overcast morning. Breakfast by the pool followed by a leisurely session with the owners checking out the options for tourists on a rainy day. It was another late start, we didn't get to bed til after 2am by the time we'd settled down from the flight, done the washing and gotten ourselves a bit sorted. It rained over night and drizzled off and on through the day per the forecast which had also said there would be isolated flash flooding along the pan handle. The news tonight proved that to be correct and much of the road we travelled on is now flooded and impassable.
