I'm now 2 days in to my Melbourne trip & it has been fantastic catching up with my friend Jimmy from back home.
Like a true gent he picked me up from the airport which was relatively seamless considering my lack of mobile technology.
He took me straight to Pineoak Street (aka Ramsay St off neighbours). We were a little disappointed as the road was closed for filming.
I also had my first taste of Goon (cheap rubbish wine what Backpackers use to get drunk). At $9 for 4 litres you can imagine what this stuff tastes like.
After much persuasion we decided to go surfing yesterday. When it's winter and 12 degrees only the extreme surf goers hit the water! While I'm not an extreme surfer, I'm crazy enough to want to get as much experience as I can.
We went surfing on Torquay beach (yes Australia seems to have a lot of places that resemble places in England).
Once we got in the water, the temperature was more than manageable. I actually got as far as standing up on the board, however a split second later I was face first in the water.
We went for a post surf meal at Lorne where we saw cokatoo's that typically talk. En route to Lorne we passed through Bells beach where the surfing competitions are staged and also drove along the great ocean road which provides spectacular viewing.
After our lunch we carried on south towards Port Campbell. This is where the 12 apostles (pictured) are located, which are numerous rock heaps that have been formed over time.
We also visited the Loch Ard Gorge where a ship from Britain crashed because the crew members were busy partying. Finally we visited the Thunder cave which is supposed to resemble the sound of thunder when the waves crash against the rocks.
We arrived back at Jimmy's house around 9pm making it a 12 hour day. Very tiring but highly enjoyable.
Tonight we're going to an AFL (Australian football) game. Carlton v Hawthorne. The adventures just never seem to stop!
