Claire & Steve's Excellent Adventure
We got up ridiculously early (5am) to climb up the nearby Poon Hill which offers a fantastic view of the Himalayan range. We are gradually getting used to putting our clothes on inside our sleeping bags each day to try to limit the shock of the cold when we finally do emerge from our cocoons! It was a difficult climb up Poon Hill without any fuel in the tummy but well worth it to see the sun creeping up over the mountains.
After breakfast we hit the trekking trail once again - both suffering from various aches and pains following the steps yesterday! We trekked through a large forest which is apparently stunning during spring when the flowers are in bloom. Taking a break following a steep climb gave us the chance to get a panoramic view of the mountains and what lay ahead in our journey to Annapurna basecamp.
We crossed the suspension bridge over the river (slightly more sturdy than some of the other "bridges") and climbed again up to Tadapani (Tada meaning 'Hot' after the hot springs) where the village sits on a shelf above the river.
We got intoxicated on kerosene fumes from the heater beneath the table - at least we were warm I guess - and got our first taste of the traditional Nepalese dish of Dhal Bhat (tons of rice, lentil soup, veg and pickle) which was very nice and obviously does a great job of filling you up and even helps to propel you along the next day by offering great deal of flatulence!
