Claire & Steve's Excellent Adventure
Moved onto Jodhpur today - this is known as the Blue City because of the colour wash on the houses. We visited Meherangarh Fort which was one of the more impressive ones and gave excellent views of the city. Also went to see where the current Maharaja of Jodhpur lives - very nice too! From here we moved onto Ranakpur which was like a whole other world - wide open spaces, lakes, mountains, fresh air and loads of wildlife and greenery.
We went to the Adinath temple which was pretty amazing inside - 1444 pillars inside each with a unique design...Steve and I counted each and every one - honest!! We also got the obligatory red dot plonked on our forehead AGAIN! We are going to be the luckiest pair of travellers the world has ever seen by the time we leave India.
Raju took us on a walk up to the dam and lake - very pretty although marred a bit by the dead bat hanging from the electric wires! We watched a local family at work making traditional rugs by hand on the loom...it takes 16 days to complete just one of these. During dinner we watched a couple of transvestite dancers parading around....very amusing!
