Claire & Steve's Excellent Adventure
We have made it to Delhi in one piece. As expected it is a major culture shock - tons of people, cows, dogs, traffic, noise and smells. We survived our first experience on the Indian roads last night from the airport and the hotel is basic but clean. We have just organised to go around North India for the next fortnight before heading down south. We will post photos as soon as we can.
Thurs 10 Nov
Met our driver for the next fornight called Raju. He took us on a tour of Delhi which involved quite a few temples - so many different religions! We went to the oldest Mosque in Delhi and was shown around by a guy who spoke no English then demanded payment! Also saw Gandhi memorial where he was cremated - good to see that Delhi does have some greenery and calm. Visited Humaylin's tomb which is a precursor to the Taj Mahal and also the Lotus Temple built for the Bahal faith - very cool and calming, it looked a bit like the Sydney Opera House. Travelled onto Qutb Minar which was very impressive and Steve's personal favourite of the day. We were absolutely exhausted by the end of the day and fell into bed although I didn't sleep yet again - Steve however had no problems!
