It's quite annoying that with quite a few places on the West coast you have to go back down the same road to carry on North. It wouldn't be so bad if it was an hour but when you know you've got to drive 3 hrs just to get back to the highway to continue North it's quite frustrating, especially when the roads are straight and never ending, you turn a slight corner and are welcomed once again by another straight road, breach the top of a hill and yes there's another one, highly boring.
There were things to see on the boring road on the way to Monkey Mia but not that far so we went to the stromatalites (oldest living organism, rock apparently) looked like rocks in very clear turquoise water, can't say we were blown away by that but really wanted to swim in that water, much more enjoyable!
50km up the road was shell beach, yep you guessed it a beach that rather than sand is made of loads of tiny shells. Man made apparently, bit disappointed with that but we were allowed to swim here. Even as beautiful as the water looked it felt rather less so, bloody freezing I think describes it best!! Took my breath away for about a minute then I was numb and used to it. The water seriously was gorgeous rivaled that of Thailand islands just needs a few more degrees heat!
We spent that night right on the beach, with our side door open we couldn't have been more then 3m from the sea, great and free!! This night was far more sedate compared to the night before and I think we all crashed out by 8pm!
