Before we actually get to Townsville we have to come to the rescue of our mates Luke and Hayley. They were going down an unsealed road and rolled their 4WD, we were lucky to actually have signal when they called to let us know. They were both ok but the car wasn't they were stuck in the back of beyond and needed us to come get them, only prob was we were over1000km from them. We drove pretty much all the daylight hours we could to get to them, which took about 24 hrs.
We were all reunited, they were shaken up expectedly but happy to know that they weren't stranded anymore. We all decided that we'd got to Townsville which is on the East coast and we'd then make our way to Brisbane where we'd sell our vans and fly to New Zealand.
Townsville was the first major city we'd been to in ages, it was way bigger then Broome, loads more cars, people, shops, activity. Not bad for our first view of the East coast.
We hung around a few days went to the beach, the HQ aquarium and Billabong wildlife sanctuary which I love, love, loved!! We got to hold Koalas, wombats, snakes, lizards and crocodiles!!!!! There we're talks about the different animals which we insightful, almost saw the croc feeding, apparently it's the wrong time of year to see them doing anything, being lazy as it's winter.
We went to see the dingo feeding expecting it to maybe be a bit savage, how wrong, these things are nothing but dogs the only difference is that they can't bark and howl instead to communicate, which is what all the noise was about in Karrijini. They are asian dogs brought over by Indian pirates and set free, they haven't found a pure bred and doubt that there are anymore pure bred dingos in the wild.
A very interesting place, we're also planning on going to Steve Irwin's zoo too, I'm loving all this wildlife!!
